ABOUT

The Katie Beckett Waiver—also known as the “deeming waiver”—allows children with significant disabilities to qualify for Medicaid based on their own income and assets, rather than their family’s. This program helps children under 18 who require an institutional level of care but live at home, giving them access to Medicaid services even if their parents earn too much to qualify through traditional routes.

To be eligible, a child must meet Social Security disability criteria and have their level of care evaluated by Alliant Health Solutions. Families apply by submitting medical documentation and assessments through the Department of Community Health. If approved, the child receives full Medicaid coverage and can continue with periodic renewals.

Ages Served

Birth to 18 Years

Income Threshold

No income threshold (family income disregarded). Eligibility is based on child’s disability and level of care needs. However, family must not be eligible for assistance through SSI.
